Mountain Bikes
The term “Mountain Bike” refers to any bicycle designed for off-road riding. Mountain bikes originated as all-purpose machines, but as the sport grew mountain bikers began to ride a wider variety of terrain and products developed to address more specific needs. Different categories of mountain bikes evolved and, today, mountain bikes in the marketplace can generally be divided into four types: XC racing, XC Trail, All-Mountain, and Freeride.

Road Bikes
The term “Road Bike” refers to any bicycle designed for road riding. Like most products that grow in popularity, so does their designs to meet the specific demands of you the consumer. Whatever your fancy, road bikes can be further divided into five types: Road, Time-trial/Triathlon, Touring, Cyclo-cross and track bikes.

Lifestyle Bikes
The term “Lifestyle” bike is used by Shimano to describe a group of bikes that are less about sport and more about health and freedom. “Lifestyle” bike is not a term that is used widely in the industry but it can be applied to a wide variety of the bicycles you will find in the market today. Beach cruisers, city bikes, hybrids and comfort mountain bikes all encourage healthy, active living without a high level of dedication and commitment. Not a cyclist, no problem, there is still a new bicycle that is right for you.
