Valverde Loses Jersey
Alejandro Valverde has already lost his leader's jersey in the Vuelta a España. One day after the Spaniard of Movistar claimed the red jersey, he crashed and lost time on the other favorites.

Joaquim Rodriguez of Katusha is the new leader. He got the jersey after Simon Clark was honored as winner of the fourth stage.

The Australian of Orica-Green Edge defeated Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) in a sprint-á-deux on the flanks of the Valdezcaray, the final climb of the day. The two had left their five fellow attackers behind just before.

One minute after Clarke a group of favorites, including Christopher Froome and Alberto Contador, passed the finish.
