The 99th edition of the Giro D'Italia will start in Apeldoorn of the Netherlands with a 6 mile individual time trial. This "Grande Partenza" or Big Start of the Giro, marks the third time that the race has begun in the Netherlands.
The 21-stage race will cover 2,102 miles through the Netherlands, Italy and some of France.


The iconic pink jersey
The iconic pink jersey of the Giro D'Italia is awared to the general classification points leader after each stage. The color of the jersey was chosen by the original race organizer, a newspaper that printed it's pages on pink paper.

On Thursday, the team presentation was held in Apeldoorn. As you can see there was a huge crowd in attendance to welcome all of the WorldTour teams.



Dumoulin opens Giro with victory in TT!

In front of his home crowd, Tom Dumoulin earned himself the first maglia rosa of the Giro by a narrow margin of just 0.01 seconds.
