Now entering its 13th year of producing dedicated triathlon footwear, Shimano has raised the bar for its professional-level footwear with the new TR9 elite triathlon racing shoe.

Engineered to allow for rapid transition times, rigid power transfer and righteous comfort, the new TR9 shoe packs in a host of top features, including a dual-strap system to meet the needs of triathletes who demand the very best footwear.

The unisex TR9 is an elite racing shoe made with podium-stepping performance in mind. Produced in Shimano's signature blue color, the TR9 is designed to optimize power transfer and shave time off your transitions.

Alternatively, the TR9W in white is also available with a women’s-specific fit.

With a lightweight, stiff carbon fiber composite sole and a stability-enhancing dual-density, cupped insole, Shimano´s TR9 triathlon shoe has a 10/12 stiffness rating for optimum power transfer and a cushioning effect to prepare feet for the final punishing leg of any triathlon.

Helle Frederiksen of the Uplace BMC Pro Triathlon team (pictured above) highlighted the TR9 as a crucial factor in her recent IM 70.3 Brasilia win:

“The new TR9 shoes have a great combination of being really easy to get into and being snug around the foot and ankle when riding. The Velcro straps allow me to land straight into the shoes when mounting the bike. The top strap opens out too, meaning it doesn´t go into the chain, another added feature that saves me vital seconds. Also the stiffness of the sole responds like a road shoe, which works well for me. It’s the perfect shoe for any pro or amateur triathlete.”

The upper part of the shoe is made from synthetic leather, which makes the shoe durable and stretch-resistant, at a very light 502 g (size 40). Perforations in upper provide an air intake and exhaust system. This, along with a three-layer ventilation mesh on the upper, allow feet to breathe and dry post-swim. The anatomical toe cap also allows air intake whilst maintaining rigidity and durability.

Crucial to the TR9's comfort is the ability to not only keep damp feet comfortable without socks, but also to provide a supported platform through a reinforced heel cup and Shimano's unique Dynalast-shaped footbed. With a contour that perfectly fits the dynamic curvature of the foot, the Dynalast shape enhances muscle-efficiency and provides a smoother riding performance.

Combined with 11mm of SPD-SL cleat adjustability the sole construction offers an additional 11mm of adjustment, doubling the standard fore and aft cleat setting range to help you find the ideal shoe-to-pedal fit.

To help riders make time gains in those all-important transitions, the TR9 features a hook-and-loop velcro Quick Strap, extra-wide collar and off-set Quick Loop on the heel, all of which simplify foot entry and quicken the rider’s transition onto and off the bike.

New for Shimano’s high-end triathlon footwear is the addition of a second Velcro strap on the front of the shoe, offering a more customized fit. An added feature on the top inward-facing strap is a sectioned construction of the end piece, giving the rider the option to neatly trim the strap to match his or her foot size and aerodynamic preferences.
