Touring and Trekking gets new DEORE XT performance

Shimano raises the bar for dedicated trekking components

Complementing the release of its DEORE XT mountain bike components, Shimano is bringing out its most advanced components yet for touring and trekking, with the added benefit of SHIMANO SHADOW RD rear derailleur technology.

In 2015 Shimano introduced its DEORE XT M8000 series for mountain bikers. Now 12 months on, Shimano has expanded the DEORE XT definition to cover mountain biking and trekking with its T8000 range.

Although the two component groups look very different, much like the riders, they share advanced riding technology that it set to increase performance and enjoyment in a variety of mixed-terrain on-road and off-road trekking and touring conditions.

Reliability and durability are key considerations for anyone on a serious trek. You need components that can match up to your adventurous spirit and components that can match your riding styles.

That’s why DEORE XT Trekking offers the versatility of a 3x10-speed drive train (48-36-26T) with stable and precise gear shifts across the DEORE XT 10-speed cassette (CS-M771-10, 36/34/32-11).

Gear shifts are handled by Rapidfire Plus shift levers with easy to see displays and multi release (rear), instant release and 2-Way release functions. The front derailleur works effortlessly across the triple chainset with a light action and smooth operation across a total capacity of 22T. Meanwhile the 10-speed rear derailleur (36T-11T, 32-11T) now has the option of SHIMANO SHADOW RD technology, which creates a low profile rear derailleur with the function to stabilize the chain and reduce chain noise over rocky terrain, whilst still maintaining easy shifting performance. In addition to that, the new DEORE XT T8000 derailleurs and shifters work with stainless steel cables featuring an OPTISLICK coating for optimum performance.

An added chain guard on the HOLLOWTECH II crankset makes for a cleaner ride, especially handy for commuters.

Braking is taken care of with consistent, predictable and powerful disc brake stopping power. Sleek levers and master cylinders use an I-specII clamp design for a neat handlebar set up. Brake adjustments are tool-free with a small dial on the lever. Rotors are shared with DEORE XT mountain biking components (SM-RT76) and come as 6-bolt 44mm PCD stainless steel units in 203mm, 180mm and 160mm options.

In addition to current DEORE XT M8010 hubs DEORE XT Trekking brings the DH-T8000-3D hub dynamo designed to power lights or other electronic units with 3W/6V power output on 26” or 28” wheels.

Overall DEORE XT T8000 has the durability for daily commuting and the reliability for long touring. Its versatile 3x10-speed drivetrain and precise, stable performance in both off road and on road riding means it can be your trusted group for all your trekking needs.

Shimano DEORE XT Trekking components will be available from September 2016.
