SPD is a system that performs whether you’re on or off the bike, designed to meet the needs of mountain bike riding.
We eliminated toe clips and integrated the pedal and outsole into a single, unified power transfer system to boost power to the pedal. It makes pedaling more efficient with a wide variety of shoe and pedal styles and the recessed cleat makes walking more comfortable. Shimano’s SPD system is intuitively easy to use. Place the cleat above the pedal cage, step down firmly to engage, and kick your heel outward to exit. It's that simple.

STABLE PEDALING PLATFORM

A wide pedal-to-shoe interface efficiently transfers rider power into the pedals, converting it into momentum down the trail.

SECURE CONNECTION

Confidently tackle technical trails with robust retention claws that securely engage with the pedal while allowing enough movement for critical on-the-fly weight adjustments.

MUD SHEDDING

Open construction design allows mud on the bottom of the shoe to fall off without interfering with pedal engagement or pedaling efficiency.

WALKABILITY

The recessed cleat design enhances off-the-bike stability by allowing you to walk on the large, grippy area of the sole instead of the cleat.

DURABILITY

SPD cleats are made from heat-treated forged steel that delivers long-lasting performance, while SPD pedals are exceptionally durable and easy to service when the time does come.

SPRING TENSION ADJUSTABILITY

Riders can easily adjust the force needed to clip in and out. Decreasing the spring tension makes getting out easier, while turning it up provides a more secure connection under heavy output.
