Limited edition M200 blue Enduro/Trail MTB and pedals

As part of its 25th anniversary SPD celebrations Shimano has released its second commemorative shoe and pedal combination of the year.

Shimano’s new M200 Blue Enduro/Trail shoe with matching blue XTR style M995 trail or M990 race pedals continues the trend set by a revolutionary design in 1990.

Whilst some will look back on the pre-1990 days with nostalgia, for many it was the dark age of cycling shoes and clothing. The dawn of dayglow cycling fashion and the most rudimentary mountain bikes attracted only the bravest souls to the off-road world.

So the launch of Shimano’s first M737 SPD pedal and compatible M100 shoe was an awakening moment for many. Allowing feet to be kept in contact with pedals across the roughest terrain suddenly meant a satisfying level of off-road racing was possible.

To celebrate that pivotal moment, Shimano’s new limited-edition M200 Blue becomes the third colorway for the top of the range M200 Enduro shoe (joining black and army green models); designed with a perfect blend of pedaling efficiency and added protection for riders to attack the trail uphill and revel in faster downhill descents.

It combines the light weight pedaling efficiency of an XC shoe with the durability, grip and armour that aggressive trail riders require.

Highlights of the M200 include its efficient speed-lacing system, high protection element from its asymmetrical ankle collar, armored lace and toe shield, high-grip arch pad on the outsole and carbon fibre reinforced midsole with Torbal torsional sections, low profile adjustment buckle and heel stabilizing design.

The M200 blue is made with a synthetic leather upper, cushioned insole and variable density durable rubber outsole weighing 762g (size 40), available in sizes 38-50.

Meanwhile the new blue M995 trail and M990 cross country pedals continue a long line of winning foot retention systems.

Beginning 25 years ago with the original M737 pedal and cleat, the much-loved design resulted in a system that is unique in its use by so many people and for so many different types of cycling and in so many conditions, not least in the demanding world of Enduro and All Mountain riding.

Fast forward through the intervening years and we see the M995 blue pedal, corresponding with Shimano’s top-grade XTR mountain bike component category, allowing riders to tackle singletrack and technical descents with control and confidence.

Its wide pedal-to-shoe contact platform provides increased stability and control and protects the binding mechanism against impacts. Meanwhile a slimmer central chrome-moly spindle creates more space inside the pedal for greater mud-shedding. Tipping the scales at just 379g this is the pedal of choice for many of the world’s best enduro and trail riders.

The blue M990 on the other hand is Shimano’s lightest off-road pedal, weighing just 310g. Whilst the M990 is completely compatible with the M200 blue, its slimmer contact area makes it more suitable for cross country racing. Of course it wouldn’t look at all out of place next to Shimano’s top of the range blue pro cross country racing shoe, the XC90B.

The M200 Blue shoe will be limited to 1200 items in Europe, whilst the M995 and M990 blue pedals will be limited to 1900 items. Items are expected in store in August 2015.
