Shimano Introduces New 2020 Cycling Footwear

EUROBIKE 2019 TRADESHOW (September 4, 2019) – At the annual Eurobike Tradeshow, Shimano unveiled a comprehensive range of new men’s and women’s footwear models for a variety of cycling disciplines. Additionally, the company will also showcase for the first time in public its recently announced new 2020 footwear models.

I. New products to debut at Eurobike 2019:

Premium, Svelte Design for New RC5 / RC5W Road Shoes

The new RC5 and RC5W (SH-RC500) mid-range road cycling shoes receive key trickle-down innovative design and functional features from Shimano’s World Tour-proven S-PHYRE road footwear at an astonishing $150 price point. The most drastic change of the all-new redesign is the new seamless midsole (integrated sole and upper construction) that elevates the levels of fit, stability and weight reduction. This seamless design that first debuted in S-PHYRE footwear lowers the stack height by 3.3mm to maximize power transfer and efficiency. The RC5/RC5W utilize the innovative one-piece “surround wrapping” composite upper that provides a breathable, comfortable fit. The new RC5 upper also utilizes a BOA L6 dial and a front Velcro enclosure.

The new XC5/XC5W like the RC5 siblings utilize a one-piece composite material surround upper construction that improves comfort. The shoe’s design lowers the stack height which improves stability. Shimano’s exclusive, grippy Michelin® rubber outsole design has cascaded down from the premium XC7 shoe for the new XC5/XC5W. Along with new 2020 Shimano GR footwear, the new AM9 and AM7/AM7W shoes feature a new proprietary Shimano rubber outsole with an original compound and tread pattern that maximizes grip and durability. The outsole design has several unique features: A wider contact area optimized to connect with Shimano SAINT PD-M820 pedals; toe/heel tread patterns designed for walking traction; A new extended Pedal Channel providing a stable shoe to pedal platform when not clipped in; Cleat position and adjustment range with more rearward range specifically tuned for gravity riding.

A molded toe cap shields the front of the foot while an asymmetrically raised padded ankle collar and sidewall guards against the drivetrain. The new AM9s also absorb less water and dry quickly.
