The fade, which can occur to rotor and pad when braking on a long downhill ride for instance, has a negative impact on the braking performance. SHIMANO has adopted ICE TECHNOLOGY rotor and ICE TECHNOLOGY pad to realize the cooling technology for consistent performance. The clad rotor blade, which has a 3 layer-sandwich structure of stainless steel, aluminum and stainless steel, provides better radiation performance achieving from 400˚C to 300˚C surface temperature. Also, the radiation fin has been adopted for the pad. Moreover, the clad rotor blade and the radiator fin provide long pad life, less noise, less fade and lightweight. ICE TECHNOLOGY Pad Available in resin or metal compound, the optional radiation fin pad with a 2-layer back plate (aluminum fin with stainless steel) further improves radiation performance. Resin pad durability and clad rotor Resin pad durability and radiator fin pad ICE TECHNOLOGY Rotor Clad rotors as well as clad brake pads significantly reduce heat build-up in the brake system. This in turn reduces fading, which ensures consistent high performance even on long downhill stretches, It also results in a longer pad life and substantially quieter braking. About braking force and brake fade Radiation effects of clad rotor Ultimate FREEZA ICE TECHNOLOGY Rotor SHIMANO’s ICE TECHNOLOGIES has realized the ultimate clad rotor, incorporating aluminum fins for enhanced heat control. With an increased surface area for heat dispersion, the rotor achieves a 50°C reduction in heat. This in turn generates a 20% increase in braking force durability and a 20% longer pad life. ICE TECHNOLOGY Hose SM-BH90-SBLS long banjo hose reduces heat at a critical location where heat transmitted from caliper to hose ICE TECHNOLOGY Piston ICE TECHNOLOGY piston in order to achieve optimized lightweight, high rigidity and heat dissipation. Oversized pistons transfer hydraulic power directly to the brake pad, and ceramic material is used to avoid heat transfer for constant stable braking, providing efficient stopping power transfer without loss.
