A new benchmark in gravel performance—seamlessly blending pedaling efficiency, off-bike stability, and race-day readiness.

In this article:

  • Discover how the all-new pontoon cleat system delivers road-shoe power transfer with off-road walkability.
  • Learn why the RX910’s outsole design offers unmatched stability, stiffness, and drainage for the toughest gravel terrain.
  • Understand how Shimano’s anti-twist heel cup keeps your foot locked in during explosive efforts or long hauls.

Gravel racing doesn’t ask for perfection—it demands it. One moment you’re barreling down a washboard descent at 40 kph, the next you’re hike-a-biking through a waterlogged cattle crossing, hoisting your bike through mud and grit. It’s this contradiction—raw power meets resilience—that defines gravel. And it’s precisely this contradiction that we set out to solve with the new RX910 S-PHYRE gravel racing shoes.

Power Meets Purpose: The Pontoon System

At the heart of RX910 is our all-new pontoon cleat system—a breakthrough design that borrows from road and MTB DNA, but is born entirely of gravel.

The pontoons are modular, side-mounted contact blocks that dramatically increase the contact surface between the shoe and pedal. Inspired by early road racing cleat hacks, they are:

  • Stable: Rock-solid pedal engagement in any cleat position
  • Adjustable: Pedaling efficiency wherever you set your cleats
  • Replaceable: Pop in new lugs for a fresh grip before race day

This isn’t just a more stable SPD shoe—it’s an SPD shoe that acts like an SPD-SL on the bike and an XC shoe off it.

Installing the pontoons is refreshingly straightforward. Bolt them on, mount your SPD cleats, and you’re ready to ride. While they’ll work with any SPD-compatible pedal, we recommend pairing with the XTR PD-M9100 or PD-M8100 for maximum harmony.

Engineered for Race Day, and the Way to It.

Beyond the cleat interface, the RX910 is pure performance engineering:

Outsole Stiffness & Drainage

A durable, ultra-stiff outsole delivers exceptional power transfer and pedaling stability, even over marathon efforts. It’s efficient, but never rigid. Two integrated drain holes keep your feet dry and responsive—ideal when fording streams or pushing through rain-soaked roads.

Anti-Twist Heel Cup

Our refined anti-twist heel cup cradles your heel for security during high-torque sprints and out-of-saddle efforts. No slippage, no power loss—just complete confidence when it matters most.

Performance Meets Freedom

The RX910 isn’t a road shoe made grittier. It’s not a mountain biking shoe smoothed out. It’s a shoe built specifically for the unscripted, unfiltered, unpredictable nature of gravel. A shoe that transfers every watt on the pedal—and keeps you upright when the road disappears.

Because gravel isn’t a genre. It’s a celebration.
