Shimano created Trail Born to fuel the growth of mountain biking by empowering the people who build, maintain, and imagine great trails. The Trail Born Fund provides direct support to the organizations shaping the sport’s future, from community groups breaking ground on their first purpose-built trails to established advocates expanding iconic riding networks. For 2025, Shimano is excited to announce a new group of Trail Born Fund recipients who are bringing bold, community-driven projects to life across the globe.

Through the Trail Born Fund, Shimano provides financial backing and visibility to projects that expand access, improve sustainability, and elevate riding opportunities worldwide. Since the program’s launch, Trail Born has helped with dozens of miles of singletrack, and the momentum continues to grow.

Today, Shimano is proud to announce the 2025 Trail Born Fund recipients for North America, representing a diverse group of organizations working to create new places to ride for beginners, families, and seasoned riders alike.

Mt. Hough Trail Network – Quincy, California

Shimano’s ongoing support for the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is helping to fund the completion of the crown-jewel, Mt. Hough Recreation Area trail network. Mt. Hough currently features 68 miles of world-class singletrack. Trail Born support in 2025 will help complete with miles of Tollgate Trail including a new 3.7 mile descent.

MadCTR Trail – Richmond, Kentucky

This project will establish the city’s first-ever, purpose-built mountain bike trails. Incorporated into a major sports complex near the interstate, the project will provide a top-tier, race-ready venue for NICA and grassroots racing while offering progression-oriented riding opportunities for local riders and future visitors. 2025 support will include up to 6.7 miles of new trail.

Mule Mountain Trails – Redding, California

The Mule Mountain Trails expansion is about adding variety and trail diversity to an underutilized area of public land close to town. From green flow, to double black tech, it's going to offer something for everyone!

Virginia Canyon Mountain Park – Idaho Springs, Colorado

The Colorado Mountain Bike Association is leading the charge on a bold new hand-built, black-rated, 1.7-mile descending trail called Panic Switch. This trail marks the first installment of the proposed Trail Born Hub area, which will be a gathering spot for multiple trails in the Virginia Canyon Mountain Park.

New Trail in Bellingham, Washington

With support from Transition Bikes and local community groups, this new trail on Mt. Galbraith will add fresh variety to one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic riding zones. 2025 support will include 1 mile of new trail.

Powerhouse Plunge – Squamish, British Columbia

As one of Squamish’s most iconic and historically significant trails, Powerhouse Plunge is a cornerstone of the region’s riding identity. For over 20 years, it was the flagship trail in the Test of Metal bike race putting Squamish on the global mtb’ing map; however, following the last race in 2016, it has declined in popularity and regular maintenance. The 2025 support will include the rebuilding of 1.4 miles of trail.

New Trail in Wentworth, Nova Scotia

This purpose-built downhill trail will help usher in a new era of high-level racing in Atlantic Canada. Designed with future events in mind, the Maritime DH trail is poised to host Canada Cup DH and Enduro racing in the coming years. 2025 support will include a 1.4-mile descent trail.

More to Come in 2026

Trail Born is expanding, evolving, and accelerating trail development worldwide. With new projects approved each year, riders will have more ways to follow progress, connect with advocacy partners, and discover destinations shaped by the program.
