Some SPD pedals cannot be used in combination with pontoon cleats. Alwayscheck the Service Instructions (SI) for your shoes and pedals before use.​

For example, the following SPD pedals are not compatible with the pontooncleats: PD-M9220, PD-M858, PD-7410, PD-6500​

Can this pontoon system be used with any cycling shoe?

No, our new pontoon system is designed solely for use with SHIMANO RX910 gravel shoes. They are not compatible with other SPD shoes because of potential contact with the sole blocks. They also do not work with 3-hole road shoes, 5-hole outsoles, or any other non-SHIMANO cycling shoes.

Can the pontoon system be used with 5-hole outsoles?

No.

5-hole outsoles require SM-SH40 or SM-SH41 cleat adapters and are not compatible with the pontoon system.

Where can I buy this pontoon?

It is included with SH-RX910, and it is also available to purchase separately. Please contact your local bike shop for more information.

How are the pontoons packaged?

They come pre-assembled on the RX910 sole with bolts and anti-scratch paper. This protective paper needs to be removed before installing the SPD cleats.

What will happen if I use RX910 without the pontoon system?

RX910 must be used with this pontoon system. Using RX910 without the pontoon system can lead to unintended step-outs, potentially causing damage and/or injury.

Can the pontoons be installed in either direction?

No, the pontoons need to be installed in the correct direction; otherwise, they won't work properly. There are arrows that point toward the toes to help you install them correctly.
