Shimano Introduces New 2017 Performance Footwear

Innovative technologies and purpose-built designs deliver increased performance
OSAKA, Japan (July 13, 2016) – Further expanding upon its comprehensive footwear offering, Shimano has unveiled all-new 2017 performance cycling models for mountain, road and triathlon disciplines. The result of over 25 years experience designing and engineering cycling footwear, each model is purpose-built—from outsole to upper—for optimal performance in its element. Built upon the Shimano Pedaling Dynamics (SPD) platform, Shimano footwear and pedals are engineered together as a complete system, optimizing bio-mechanics, engineering excellence, material selection, and craftsmanship to increase rider efficiency and comfort. Shimano collaborated with trusted names in footwear technology for its 2017 footwear lines. A collaboration was struck up with Michelin for technical outsoles in mountain bike footwear whilea collaboration with Boa led to the implementation of its closure systems to enhance the fit and accessibility in performance road and mountain bike footwear.

Mountain Enduro series: The new standard for aggressive trail performance
The all-new Mountain Enduro (ME) series combines the light weight and pedaling performance of a XC shoe with the durability, grip and armored protection required by aggressive trail riders. Comprised of two new models—the ME7 and ME5—the ME series features Shimano’s TORBAL (Torsional Balance) sole technology which improves balance and bike control by allowing for some lateral movement in the heel, while optimizing pedaling efficiency at the sole/cleat interface. With added impact protection in the toe, upper and ankle, as well as a reverse mount buckle design for improved durability, the ME7 and ME5 are perfectly suited for the rigors of enduro racing.

The flagship ME7 features an exclusive outsole design, created in collaboration with Michelin. Using dual-density rubber and a strategic lug placement pattern, the design draws upon Michelin’s extensive knowledge of tread design to improve grip off the bike without compromising pedaling efficiency. Further advancing rider protection and comfort, a new stretch Neoprene ankle collar keeps out trail debris while ample mesh ventilation throughout the front and rear of the shoe ensures ventilation even during long, hot days on the trail. The speed lacing system comfortably adapts to a wide range of foot shapes and is kept protected from the elements by an armored lace shield.

XC7: Off-road racing shoe blends pedaling performance and comfort
The XC series is designed from the ground up for cross-country and cyclocross performance. Designed with an ultra-rigid, lightweight carbon fiber reinforced midsole and a supple high-density synthetic leather upper, the new XC7 delivers race-ready pedaling efficiency and all-day comfort.

The Boa IP1 dials allow a highlytunable fit and the Boa Powerzone wire guide is adjustable to help maintain consistent tension along the top of the foot. Boosting performance on and off the bike, the XC7 features an exclusive outsole designed in collaboration with Michelin. The full-length dual-density rubber construction increases grip and durability and the tread pattern is specifically designed for mudshedding, helping to maintain lightweight performance even in adverse conditions.

Road Competition series: Focused performance for race-winning efforts
With the Road Performance (RP) series designed for the needs of Gran Fondo and sportive riders, Shimano introduces the new new Road Competition (RC) series focused on all-out race performance. Employing Shimano’s proven Dynalast last, the RC7 uses a one-piece upper construction and an ultra rigid carbon fiber composite sole to ensure both superb efficiency and ultra light weight. The perforated upper design allows for excellent ventilation without affecting comfort or support.

The Boa IP1 closure system allows for quick, micro tension adjustments and the Powerzone wire guide increases tenability, helping to ensure consistent closure tension and optimal rider comfort.

Triathlon series: Efficiency and comfort for the perfect split
Using a similar architecture of Shimano’s flagship TR9 shoe, the new TR5 and TR5W deliver the ideal blend of comfort, efficiency and accessibility for quick transitions and powerful bike splits. A successful bike leg starts with a seamless transition. The T1- Quick strap and extra wide collar simplifies foot entry while the asymmetrical heel loop is easier to use in the heat of the moment. Once on the bike, the glass fiber reinforced nylon sole helps reduce weight and tune pedaling efficiency while the 3D breathable mesh allows for maximum ventilation and comfort.
