For over three decades, XTR has defined what’s possible in mountain bike performance. Now, with the M9200 series entering the e-MTB space, a new chapter begins. Not a reinvention, but a meticulous evolution—designed to meet the specific demands of modern e-mountain biking.
At its core, the XTR M9200 Di2 system for e-MTB is about precision shifting, durable drivetrain design, and intelligent integration with your electric bike’s system.
A direct-wired RD-M9260 rear derailleur draws power from the main bike battery while maintaining its lightning-fast wireless Di2 shifting. The same robust survivability and intuitive shifter, but with increased connectivity and a shared power source—the RD-M9260 complements a premier e-MTB experience.
Key features include:
This is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a highly modular platform designed to accommodate various rider styles, terrain types, and e-MTB powertrains.
The Di2 system is Shimano’s electronic shifting technology. With this update, it now includes wireless connection between the rear derailleur and shift levers —removing cockpit clutter for wireless shifting—while retaining a wired connection between the derailleur and the battery to ensure reliable power and performance in harsh conditions.
Shimano offers two distinct drivetrain options to match your riding style and terrain preferences:
12-speed HYPERGLIDE+
11-speed LINKGLIDE
One of the hallmarks of Di2 for e-MTB is its ability to shift for you.
AUTO SHIFT
This system uses onboard sensors to measure cadence, torque, and speed. Based on real-time inputs, it automatically selects the ideal gear—just like a car’s automatic transmission.
FREE SHIFT
This feature allows you to shift gears while not pedaling. That means:
These two technologies are now available on both 11-speed and 12-speed drivetrains, thanks to updates in chain stabilization and cassette tooth profiles.
Available in either the lightweight, fast-shifting 12-speed HYPERGLIDE+ (RD-M9260-12) or the durable, smooth-shifting 11-speed LINKGLIDE (RD-M9260-11L) options.
Both are now fully compatible with FREE SHIFT and AUTO SHIFT technologies. This is accomplished through a new design structure of the RD-M9260, which allows for more chain wrap on the pulley wheels and stronger chain stabilization, as well as updated cassette tooth profiles on the HYPERGLIDE+ cassette.
The new Di2 shifter isn’t just a button—it’s a command center.
You can customize all functions using Shimano’s E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app, which connects via Bluetooth and lets you fine-tune settings before or during a ride.
With heavier bikes and steeper, longer descents, braking becomes more critical on an e-MTB. Shimano’s XTR M9220 enduro brakes are engineered for this reality.
These brakes have been tested on the E-EDR circuit (the enduro series for e-MTBs) and provide World Cup-level control and safety.
Every component in the XTR M9200 system has been designed with durability in mind.
The XTR group was not just upgraded—it was reimagined for the unique loads, wear patterns, and performance demands of e-MTB riders.
Here’s what XTR Di2 brings to your e-MTB:
It’s not just about shifting gears. It’s about simplifying decisions so you can focus on the flow, terrain, and ride farther, faster, with more confidence.
With XTR Di2, Shimano isn’t just giving e-MTB riders more gears. We’re giving them a more intelligent, more intuitive way to ride.
Whether you’re navigating backcountry epics or pushing laps at the bike park, XTR gives you tools to do it smarter, safer, and more efficiently. No hesitation. No second-guessing. Just riding—at your best.
