Power accuracy improvement corrects the difference in power values due to the front gear's inner and outer positions.

The SHIMANO power meter receives the gear position information from a compatible Di2 rear derailleur and corrects the power values according to the inner and outer positions of the front gear.

The following SHIMANO power meter models have this feature: FC-R9200-P and FC-R8100-P.

Does the SHIMANO DURA-ACE FC-R9100-P power meter require the power accuracy improvement feature? (F-7030)

No, it does not. This model does not require a correction as the difference between the front gear's inner and outer power values is negligible.

What will I need in order to configure the settings for power accuracy improvement? (F-7040)

  1. Latest 12 speed SHIMANO power meter from Dura-Ace(FCR9200P) or Ultegra (FCR8100P)
  2. Latest 12 speed Di2 rear derailleur from Dura-Ace RDR9250), Ultegra (RDR8150) or 105 (RDR7150)
  3. SHIMANO application "E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist"

Update the firmware on the compatible Di2 rear derailleur to the latest version, then configure the settings for power accuracy improvement.

Open E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist and tap the bike registered in Mybike to find the instructions. Follow these instructions to configure the settings.

The instructions will not appear in the following cases:

  • If your bike is not registered in Mybike.
  • If the Di2 rear derailleur information is not stored in the app.
  • If you have selected 'Do not show this next time'.

In case of the above, please refer to the manual to configure the settings.

Q:

Will I need to configure the settings for power accuracy improvement only once? (F-7060)

Yes, the settings for power accuracy improvement will only need to be configured once. Once configured, the settings will be saved. Some settings will need to be reconfigured after replacing the Di2 rear derailleur or power meter.

Q:

I'm having trouble configuring the settings for power accuracy improvement, what should I do? (F-7070)

Your power meter may not be communicating with the Di2 rear derailleur components correctly.

Refer to (1) and (2) below to reconfigure the settings.

(1) ANT communication on the Di2 rear derailleur is disabled: Connect the Di2 system to E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist, then go to Customize screen > Wireless settings and enable ANT communication.

(2) A different bike's rear derailleur is paired with the power meter: Connect your power meter to E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist, then go to Customize screen > Power accuracy improvement to see the information on the paired rear derailleur.

If the paired rear derailleur is on a different bike, unpair it. Then, connect the rear derailleur you want to pair with the power meter to the app and reconfigure the settings for power accuracy improvement.

Why do I have to enable both ANT® and Bluetooth® LE in power meter settings? (F-8020)

It is necessary in order to connect to multiple devices for displaying and logging data.
For example, Bluetooth® LE is designed for 1:1 communication, therefore the power meter cannot connect to other devices while it is connected to a smartphone. Using ANT® allows the power meter to connect to multiple devices. Also, Bluetooth® LE and ANT® do not use the same communication protocol, allowing you to choose which one to use as required.
In particular, to receive force vector data on your Garmin® device, you need to set up both ANT® and Bluetooth® LE for data transmissions.

When both ANT® and Bluetooth® LE are enabled for data transmissions, based on user requirements, turning one of them off can reduce the battery consumption of your power meter.
However, to receive force vector data on your Garmin® device, you need to set up both ANT® and Bluetooth® LE for data transmissions.

I don't know how to display the force vector data sent from my power meter on various devices or how to analyze the logged data on SHIMANO CONNECT Lab. (F-5010)

It may be affected by the wireless communication environment or already paired devices. Referring to the document here, try to perform pairing several times by following 6 to 8 in STEP 2 in an environment where there are no other wireless devices.

I cannot receive force vector data on my Garmin® device using Bluetooth® LE communication. (F-8060)

Q:

It is difficult to see the force vector display while riding. (F-8120)

We do not recommend that you keep your eyes fixed on the display while riding outdoors. It is dangerous. Force vector data should be logged as a ride log and be used for analysis on SHIMANO CONNECT Lab. To see the display in real-time, exercise caution to ensure your safety such as using a bike roller stand indoors.

Q:

Can I integrate and manage my ride data logged with E-TUBE RIDE and other devices as single ride data on SHIMANO CONNECT Lab? (F-5020)

Each data is treated as individual ride data. We recommend that you manage one of the data as your ride log.

Why the power values can differ from those of third-party power meters? (F8100)

There are several types of power meters, such as crank-based, pedal-based, and hub-based power meters. Differences in power values may occur due to the following factors,

  • The position of the measurement sensor.
  • Altering calculation and calibration methods.
  • The difference in the chain drive efficiency between the rear and front.
  • The difference due to the method (magnet or accelerometer) used to measure cadence (= time).
  • The difference in cadence log data due to differences in the communication protocol standard between BLE and ANT.
  • The difference in calculationof received values by 3rd party headunit (same powermeter data can result is slightly different values on different headunits.
Q:

Why is power or cadence displayed or logged sometimes after I stop pedaling? (F8110)

When you stop pedaling while riding your bike, the power or cadence data immediately before you stop pedaling may be displayed or logged for up to 3 seconds. SHIMANO power meters use a magnet for better pedaling start response, allowing your cadence to be measured at the minimum of 20 rpm. Secondly the magnet makes it possible to implement the super detailed force vector measurements as well.

Q:

The power meter LED flashes in red during zero offset calibration. (F-6040)

Some problems may have occurred during zero offset calibration. Check that the connector is attached correctly and perform zero offset calibration again. Click here for more information.

Q:

Cadence is not displayed. (F-6050)

The magnet may be missing or improperly installed.
If the magnet is missing or improperly installed, contact your place of purchase or a distributor for assistance.

Q:

Cadence values seem inaccurate. (F-8130)

Another cadence sensor may have been installed.
If another sensor is installed, uninstall it or disable the setting.

Q:

The power meter does not charge. (F-6060)

  • You may be using A USB hub for charging. do not use A USB hub.
  • the charging cable may be disconnected. If the power meter still does not charge using A different PC or USB adapter, replace the charging cable. Click here for more information.

Q:

Connect IQ™ Force Vector Viewer is not showing data correctly. (F-8140)

Setting Force Vector Viewer to the same data field again may resolve the problem.

Q:

All or part of the data retrieved with Connect IQ™ Force Vector Viewer is not logged into the Garmin Edge®. (F-8150)

When connecting a Force Vector mode power meter to your Garmin Edge® via Connect IQ™, you need to select an activity profile that has Force Vector Viewer set to a data field. ​
Also, if the Force Vector Viewer data field is not displayed when logging starts especially after waking up from sleep mode, data may not be logged into the Garmin Edge®. ​Using your Garmin Edge® with the automatic sleep mode turned off may resolve the problem.

Q:

Referring to the FAQ does not help me resolve an issue. (F-6070)

Try resetting the power meter hardware.

  1. Press and hold the button on the power meter control unit for 15 seconds.
  2. Release the button to complete the hardware reset.
  3. Once the hardware reset is complete, the LED illuminates and the battery level is displayed.
After the hardware reset, check that the power meter functions properly. If the issue persists, contact your place of purchase or a distributor for assistance.
