Configuring power measurement accuracy improvement

You can improve the accuracy of power measurement by pairing a SHIMANO power meter* with a compatible Di2 rear derailleur*.

*Target products: FC-R9200-P/FC-R8100-P/RD-R9250/RD-R8150/RD-R7150

Note: This procedure requires E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist Ver.5.2.3 or later.

STEP1

Update the firmware of the rear derailleur

STEP 1-1

Start E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist.

If this screen is displayed, the initial settings of the application are complete. Proceed to step 1-2.

Notice -1

The following initial settings are required the first time that the application is started.

Select the area and Countries/Regions where the application will be used, and tap [OK].

Tap [Skip].

Confirm each document, select [Agree], and tap [Next].

When the connection waiting screen is displayed, proceed to the next step.

*If a screen such as the following is displayed, procedure B applies.
Click here to continue with the procedure.

STEP 1-2

Set the Di2 bicycle to the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

Press and hold the function button until the LED flashes blue.

STEP 1-3

Connect E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist with the Di2 bicycle via the Bluetooth® LE.

Tap [+].

When the rear derailleur to connect is displayed, tap [OK].

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [Pair].

A dialog that allows you to enter or change a passkey* may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Later] is selected.

Tap [OK].

The component configuration of the connected Di2 bicycle is displayed.

STEP 1-4

Update the firmware of the Di2 rear derailleur from the UPDATE tab.

If the firmware is already the latest version, proceed to step 2.

Notice

1. Do not operate your smartphone during a firmware update.
If you use other applications and force E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist into the background, the update may fail.

2. Leave your smartphone near the rear derailleur and do not move it away during a firmware update.

Tap the UPDATE tab.

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [OK].

Tap the panel of the rear derailleur, then tap [Update].

When the dialog box is displayed, tap [Update].

Tap [UPDATE].

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [Additional software license agreement], read the content, then tap [Agree and update].

Tap [UPDATE].

The update starts.

When the update is complete, tap [CUSTOMIZE].

STEP2

Enable ANT communication for the rear derailleur

STEP 2-1

Enable ANT communication for the rear derailleur.

If the wireless communication method is already set to ANT+/Bluetooth® LE, tap [Disconnect] and proceed to the next step.

Tap the [Wireless settings] panel.

Tap [Wireless communication].

Set [ANT+/Bluetooth® LE], then tap [Complete].

Tap [APPLY].

Tap [DISCONNECT].

STEP3

Update the firmware of the power meter

STEP 3-1

Connect E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist with the power meter via Bluetooth® LE.

Press the button of the power meter control unit to enable the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

Tap [+].

When the power meter to connect is displayed, tap [OK].

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [Pair].

A dialog that allows you to enter or change a passkey* may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Later] is selected.

When the dialog box is displayed, tap [OK].

STEP 3-2

Update the firmware of the power meter.

If the power meter has the latest firmware, skip this step and proceed to step 4-1.

Notice

1. Do not operate your smartphone during a firmware update.
If you use other applications and force E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist into the background, the update may fail.

2. Leave your smartphone near the rear derailleur and do not move it away during a firmware update.

Tap [Firmware version].

Tap [UPDATE].

Tap the panel for the power meter, then tap [UPDATE].

Tap [UPDATE].

Tap [UPDATE].

Tap [OK].

The update starts.

When the update is complete, the [Power accuracy improvement] screen is displayed.

STEP4

Pair the power meter and rear derailleur

STEP 4-1

Pair the power meter with the Di2.

Tap [Pair power meter with Di2].

Confirm the displayed rear derailleur, and tap [Pair].

When a dialog like this is displayed, press one of the shifting switches.

Tap [Complete].

STEP 4-2

 Disconnect the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist from the power meter.

Tap [DISCONNECT].

Configuration is complete.

STEP1

Update the firmware of the rear derailleur

STEP 1-1

Start E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist.

The bicycle registered as My bike is displayed.

Notice

The bicycle registered as My bike is only displayed if you are logged in to the application with a SHIMANO ID.
Follow the procedure below to log in to the application.

Tap the mark.

Tap [Sign up/Login].

Tap [LOGIN].

Log in to the app with the login method you chose when you created your ID. If you chose to log in with your email address, enter your email address and password, then tap [Submit]

The bicycle registered as My bike is displayed.

STEP 1-2

Set the Di2 bicycle to the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

Press and hold the function button until the LED flashes blue.

STEP 1-3

Connect E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist with the Di2 bicycle via the Bluetooth® LE.

The detected Di2 bike is automatically connected. If the bike is not connected, tap the panel for the bike.

A dialog that allows you to enter or change a passkey* may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Later] is selected.

Likewise, a dialog that allows you to save a passkey to the server** may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Do not save] is selected.

The bicycle is connected.

The dialog box is displayed.

Notice

If a screen such as the following is displayed at this stage, the connected bicycle is not registered as My bike or the application is not logged in to a SHIMANO ID.
Log in to SHIMANO ID and start the procedure again, or proceed from step 1-3 of procedure A.

STEP 1-4

Proceed to the [Power accuracy improvement] screen and update the firmware of the Di2 rear derailleur.

If the firmware is already updated, the procedure automatically proceeds to step 6.

Notice

1. Do not operate your smartphone during a firmware update.

If you use other applications and force E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist into the background, the update may fail.

2. Leave your smartphone near the rear derailleur and do not move it away during a firmware update.

Tap [OK].

Tap [Firmware Version].

Tap [UPDATE].

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [OK].

Tap the panel of the rear derailleur, then tap [Update].

When the dialog box is displayed, tap [Update].

Tap [UPDATE].

When a dialog like this is displayed, tap [Additional software license agreement], read the content, then tap [Agree and update].

Tap [UPDATE].

The update starts.

When the update is complete, the [Power accuracy improvement] screen is displayed.

STEP2

Enable ANT communication for the rear derailleur.

If the wireless communication method is already set to ANT+/Bluetooth® LE, tap [Disconnect] and proceed to the next step.

Tap [Enable ANT communication].

STEP 2-2

Disconnect the bicycle.

If the firmware is already updated, the procedure automatically proceeds to step 6.

Tap [Disconnect and continue].

The bicycle registration screen is displayed.

Notice

If both steps 1 and 2 were not required, the following dialog box indicating that the rear derailleur settings are complete is displayed.
Tap [OK] to close the dialog box, then tap [DISCONNECT].
The bicycle is disconnected, and the bicycle registration screen is displayed.

Tap [Disconnect and continue].

The bicycle registration screen is displayed.

STEP3

Update the firmware of the power meter

STEP 3-1

Connect E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist with the power meter via Bluetooth® LE.

Press the button of the power meter control unit to enable the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

Tap the detected power meter that is displayed.

A dialog that allows you to enter or change a passkey* may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Later] is selected.

The power meter connects to the application.

Likewise, a dialog that allows you to save a passkey to the server** may be displayed. Perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Do not save] is selected.

When the dialog box is displayed, tap [OK].

STEP 3-2

Update the firmware of the power meter.

If the power meter has the latest firmware, skip this step and proceed to step 4.

Notice

STEP4

Pair the power meter and rear derailleur

STEP 4-1

Pair the power meter with the Di2.

Tap [Pair power meter with Di2].

Confirm the displayed rear derailleur, and tap [Pair].

When a dialog like this is displayed, press one of the shifting switches.

Tap [Complete].

STEP 4-2

Disconnect the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist from the power meter.

Tap [DISCONNECT].

Configuration is complete.

Procedure for creating a SHIMANO ID and registering the bicycle as My bike with E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist

You can log in to the E-TUBE PROJECT application with a SHIMANO ID* to use more functions, such as those for registering bicycle information and sharing data with other SHIMANO applications.

*Some application functions are only available by logging in with a SHIMANO ID.

1 SHIMANO ID creation procedure

STEP1

Tap the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist icon to start the application, then display the SHIMANO ID PORTAL screen.

If you are starting the application for the first time

Select the area and Countries/Regions where the application will be used, and tap [OK].

Tap [New Registration] and proceed to step 2.

If you have used the application before

Tap the mark.

Tap [Sign up/Login].

Tap [New Registration] and proceed to step 2.

STEP2

Perform the SHIMANO ID registration procedure.

Select the method for registering a new ID.

Enter the required information, then tap [Send].
The following screens are for when you chose to log in with your email address. Fill in the required fields, then tap [Submit].

A confirmation e-mail is sent.

The confirmation e-mail will arrive.

Click the link in the e-mail.

When the e-mail address is confirmed, tap [Return to app].

Tap × to close the SHIMANO ID PORTAL screen.

STEP3

Log in to the application with the registered ID and password.

Tap [LOGIN].

Enter the e-mail address and password used when registering the ID, then tap [Submit].

The procedure for logging in to the application with a SHIMANO ID is complete.

2 My bike registration procedure

STEP1

Tap the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist icon to start the application.

If this screen is displayed, you are logged in to the application with a SHIMANO ID. Proceed to step 2.

Notice

The bicycle can only be registered as My bike if you are logged in to the application with a SHIMANO ID.
Follow the instructions below to log in.

Tap the mark.

Tap [Sign up/Login].

Tap [LOGIN].

Enter the e-mail address and password used when registering the ID, then tap [Submit].

The procedure for logging in to the application with a SHIMANO ID is complete.

STEP2

Set the Di2 bicycle to the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

Press and hold the function button until the LED flashes blue.

STEP3

Register the Di2 bicycle as My bike.

Tap [+].

When the Di2 bicycle to connect is displayed, tap [Register].

Tap [Pair].

When a dialog that allows you to enter or change a passkey* is displayed, perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Later] is selected.

Tap [REGISTER AS NEW BIKE].

When a dialog that allows you to save a passkey to the server** is displayed, perform the desired operation. The screen shows that [Do not save] is selected.

Tap [DISCONNECT].

My bike registration is complete.

STEP4

Connect with the power meter.

Press the button of the power meter control unit to enable the Bluetooth® LE connection mode.

STEP5

Connect the power meter to the application, and assign it to the bicycle registered as My bike in the previous procedure.

Tap [+].

When the power meter to assign is displayed, tap [Register].

Tap [Pair].

Tap [Later].*

Tap [Registered bike].

Confirm that the registered bicycle is selected, and tap [OK].

Tap [Do not save].**

Tap [DISCONNECT].

* A passkey is a 6-digit number that you need to enter on your smartphone when pairing your smartphone with a Bluetooth® device such as a wireless unit.

The default passkey is “000000” but you can set a passkey of your choice.

**By saving the passkey to the server, you can skip passkey entry, even when you change your smartphone, etc.
