STAGE 1

PRE WASH

GIVE IT A LITTLE SHAKE after the ride, rinse off mud and/or use stain-release products for stubborn dirt before washing. You don’t want dirt to join the wash as it damages the materials.

WASH YOUR KIT ASAP after rides to avoid odours and prevent bacteria that thrive in damp conditions. Sort your kit and read the care labels. Hot water can affect elasticity and wicking abilities. Cold water prevents shrinking and always select the lowest spinning speed possible.

PREP AND FLIP the kit inside out to protect the fabric, zip it all up to prevent damage and close the velcro to prevent snags. If possible use a mesh wash bag.

STAGE 2

IT IS WASH TIME

MODERN WASHING MACHINES usually offer a ‘Sports’ setting which is great, but use the ‘Delicate/Silk’ option for performance fabrics as it offers a lower spinning speed.

BIB SHORTS GO IN A MESH laundry bag to avoid stretching and use cold water (max 30º) to prevent damage to fibres. If possible, go for an extra rinse at the end to make sure all detergent is washed out. Only a small amount of ‘Delicate’ laundry detergent will do and avoid fabric softeners and detergents with bleach.

STAGE 3

DRY WITH CARE

ALWAYS AIR-DRY next-to-skin items like baselayers, bibshorts and jerseys. Don’t tumble dry your performance kit but let Mother Nature do the work for you.

REPROOF WITH HEAT as some DWR-treated fabrics can be low-heat dried to reproof water-repellent layers of certain fabrics. But always make sure to check the label as you don’t want to damage performance fabrics.

STAGE 4

EXTRA PRO WASH TIPS

GENTLY STRETCH YOUR KIT on the inside to prevent wrinkles. Natural wool items like merino baselayers or socks can sometimes even be used multiple times without washing, just air dry them flat to avoid stretching.

WHILE DRYING always keep your kit away from direct sunlight to prevent loss of colour of the fabrics.
