  • Learn how SHIMANO's new XTR M9250 Di2 shift buttons offer customizable controls for faster, more intuitive shifting.
  • Explore how SHIMANO RAPID ES technology delivers a more intuitive operation for better on-bike control.
  • Uncover how the new XTR M9220 brake lever design with ERGO FLOW technology that enhances control and promotes a more aggressive riding position.

XTR has been a gold standard in mountain bike shift technology for over 30 years, with each new drivetrain iteration representing a step forward in shifting performance. These ever-evolving innovations have been—and continue to be—driven by rider and racer demands, delivering an on-trail experience that combines meaningful advancements with intuitive functions.

SHIMANO’s technological expertise is showcased with the new shifter switch with SHIMANO RAPID ES technology that drives the XTR M9250 Di2 wireless electronic shifting system. Carrying over the familiar shape of a traditional shifter, it features four-way multi-axis adjustability where the shift paddles can be placed where you want them. Simply place your thumb in its most comfortable position and move the paddle to meet it. This helps reduce the need to adjust your grip when shifting, a critical feature Shimano has worked on over multiple generations of mechanical shifting development.

Customizable Di2 Shift Buttons

The new Di2 shifter’s shift paddles also feature a comfortable and tactile feel, and their functions can be customized for different riding preferences using the SHIMANO E-TUBE app. Options include hold-down multi-shift, click-through double shift, and locked-out single shift. There’s even a programmable third button that can be used to scroll through screens of a connected GPS device. Or follow the lead of many SHIMANO pro racers and assign electronic “barrel adjuster” status to the third button. This allows you to adjust derailleur trim on the fly with one hand so you can tune your shifting after a crash without taking your foot off the proverbial gas.

Faster Shifting with More Control

Moving into a wireless ecosystem also means a discernable jump in shifting speed. HYPERGLIDE+ was already fast. Now, with the latest XTR Di2, you’ll experience even faster shifting thanks to our new wireless shifting protocol that pairs with SHIMANO's HYPERGLIDE+ specific cassette and chain design. Shifting speed increases again once you have your shift paddle positioned exactly where your thumb needs it to be, creating an intuitive interface between rider and machine. This interface translates to greater speed going up or down the trail.

Improved Ergonomics for Better Braking

The intuitive ergonomic improvements also extend to the new XTR M9220 brake levers that feature SHIMANO ERGO FLOW technology. Featuring a wholesale redesign, the lever’s pivot point is now closer to the bar for a smoother and lighter lever action. This results in a more natural path for your braking fingers when pulling the lever, helping reduce hand fatigue. The revised lever also employs an asymmetrical upswept motion that meets your finger at its natural angle. It promotes an aggressive, elbows-out riding position with more even weight distribution for improved riding control.

This combination of carrying forward the familiar and pairing it with powerful new and intuitive technology helps us progress as riders, getting more out of our bikes and ourselves. And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.
