DEORE 12-SPEED

Trickle-down tech that gets trophies

Trickle down technology is seen throughout SHIMANO, with everything from shifters to shoes benefitting from top-of-the-range technology at great value. The latest incarnation of the DEORE groupset embodies the trickle-down philosophy as well as ever, delivering the latest 12-speed technology at an accessible price-point.

We love DEORE, so it’s always great to hear that others love it too! Pinkbike and Singletrack Magazine are amongst those who have recognised DEORE in their latest awards and we are delighted to win in categories such as “Best Hardware” and “Value Product of the Year”.

WHAT IS TRICKLE DOWN TECH, EXACTLY?

At SHIMANO, we want give the very best components to the very best bike riders in the World, and we also want to give everyone in the World the very best components at their price point. This does not mean using different technologies or developing different functionality. Instead, we push the envelope of development at the high end, and then we push this technology down along our component ranges.

So, what is it that makes top-end technology from XTR accessible to mid-range or entry-level products like DEORE? The simple answer is: material. Functionality is the same, but production methods are different. For example, carbon fibre elements will be replaced with aluminium or steel. This allows the tech to trickle down to lower price points.

In this case, SHIMANO DEORE components deliver a new level of premium performance to the value category by bringing hallmark elite mountain bike technologies to a new price level.

HERE’S THE TECH THAT GETS THE TROPHIES:

SHIMANO DEORE M6100 is a no-compromise groupset, offering the full range of 12-speed technological innovations first introduced with XTR M9100. Including...

Wide range 10-51T cassette - a huge 510% gear range!

HYPERGLIDE+ - dramatically increases shifting speed, enabling you to shift up or down the cassette smoothly, even when putting the power down.

I-SPEC EV - ergonomic adjustments so you can tailor your handlebar controls much more to your liking.

Direct-Mount chainrings - secure and fast mounting of the chainring. Chainring changes are a breeze!

Extended inner-link plate chain - smoother shifting and enhanced chain retention.

MICRO SPLINE FREEHUB design - maintains the width of existing freehubs but allows for the addition of a 10-speed cog to your 12-speed drivetrain. Micro Spline freehub bodies have 23 smaller and equally spaced saw-tooth angled splines to limit cog damage.

AND HERE ARE THE TROPHIES:

2020 SINGLETRACK AWARDS

BEST HARDWARE

"Shimano XTR, XT and even SLX get all of the headlines, but this year Deore was one of the surprises from Japanese component maker. Deore has always been a budget-friendly drivetrain, but the newest edition makes it a more relevant choice for many of us mountain bikers. In addition to the neat features, new 2-piston brakes and updated rear mech, the new Deore looks great too."

2020 PINKBIKE AWARDS

VALUE PRODUCT OF THE YEAR

"Deore has always been the more budget-friendly drivetrain from Shimano and the updates it received this year put it in a class of its own. Not only does it perform well, but it's widely compatible and has accompanying 11 and 10-speed groupsets which carry over a lot of the features of the full-featured 12-speed edition in an even more value-focused package. At under $300 USD for a derailleur, shifter, cassette, chain, and crankset, it's a value that is hard to beat. It offers a lot of the performance we see in the higher tier groups and is the widest range drivetrain in this price range we have seen perform at the level it does."

2020 PINKBIKE AWARDS

COMPONENT OF THE YEAR

"Shimano's Deore 12-speed drivetrain that brings impressive performance to a near-entry level pricepoint. Shimano's M6100 Deore drivetrain offers essentially all of XTR's performance for a fraction of the price, and it does it without any of the cheap, plastic-y bits that you might expect to see on a drivetrain that costs around $300 USD."

ENDURO MOUNTAINBIKE MAGAZINE

2020 'BEST MTB BRAND' AWARDS

SHIMANO has also received 'Best Brand' awards from mountainBIKE Magazine and ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine for 'shifting components' and 'brakes' respectively.

Thank you to everyone who voted for SHIMANO and DEORE, and to the media outlets for including us in your nominations. Cheers to more tech, more trickling down and more time on our bikes!
