  • Learn about how SHIMANO's XTR M9200 brakes deliver improved control, consistency, and power for faster, more confident riding.
  • Discover the different XTR brake setups available and how each is tailored for different riding styles and preferences.
  • Explore the key design innovations like new low-viscosity mineral oil, updated brake levers, SERVO WAVE technology, and caliper seals that help improve braking performance.

In technical terms, SHIMANO’s new XTR M9200 brakes offer refined power application and predictable performance for more consistent braking across various terrains and temperatures. SHIMANO's skilled team of prototype testers and professional racers will simply tell you they deliver better control. Control that lets you brake later going into tight, twisty turns. Control to scrub speed as you drop into techy rock gardens. Control to smoothly modulate braking power during steep, mud-slicked descents. The control to better slow down so you can go faster.

This need for enhanced control is more important today because today’s riders are going faster than ever before. Indeed, trails that might once have been the sole domain of burly downhill bikes are now being tackled aboard enduro and trail bikes. That’s why your brakes need to be powerful and deliver more control, which is just what you get with new SHIMANO's XTR offering.

XTR Brake Setup: Versatility for Every Rider

You also get more choices. The new range of XTR brakes is available in three unique setups: a lightweight option for XC racing and riding, a powerful and refined model for aggressive descending, and an in-between offering that combines key features of both setups for an optimal balance of weight savings, brake modulation, power, and of course control.

More Powerful and Predictable Braking

With the more aggressive and in-between setups, you’ll benefit from SHIMANO's new XTR M9220 brake levers with ERGO FLOW technology, which have been redesigned with the pivot point closer to the bar for smoother and lighter lever action. This results in a natural path for your braking fingers when pulling the lever, which also helps reduce hand fatigue. The new lever shape utilizes an asymmetrical upswept design that meets your finger at its natural angle, promoting an aggressive elbows-out riding position with even weight distribution for better—you guessed it—riding control.

The new lever also features an updated SERVO WAVE track, which allows the brakes to ramp power quickly and smoothly, an especially critical feature for trail and enduro riders looking to decelerate at the last possible instant without losing control. The updated calipers employ new seals that ensure consistent rebound speed, and the system runs on a reformulated low-viscosity mineral oil that flows smoothly between the lever and caliper for more consistent power and modulation in hot and cold temperatures.

A Quieter Braking Experience

All these updates and enhancements are rooted in SHIMANO’s commitment to listening to rider feedback and then delivering the right products and performance features. The new XTR brakes deliver across the board, providing consistent high-power performance with SHIMANO's classic sharp bite point across a broad temperature range. Indeed, with the new XTR brakes, you can brake later and brake harder, and the power is there with fewer inconsistencies and less fading on extended descents. And forget about the occasional pad rattle of the past. The pads are quieter than previous models thanks to a wider back plate and a narrower ovalized hole for the pad pin. Together, these translate to a more stable brake pad inside the caliper.

Add it all up, and the new XTR brakes deliver a quiet, consistent braking system with an ergonomic lever shape that reduces hand fatigue and increases power for control when it matters most.
