Start mode, which automatically shifts to a favorite gear for an easy re-start after stopping for a traffic light, is especially useful in urban areas where stop-and-go riding are frequently repeated. Also, automatic shifting, which automatically shifts to the optimum gear based on the rider's cadence and speed, recognizes the manual shift operation by the learning function and automatically fine-tunes future automatic shift timing to the rider's preference, is more comfortable ride. With the E-TUBE PROJECT app, the starting gear and the gear shift timing can be customized.

E-bike Di2 Internal Geared Hub Automatic Shifting (INTER-8/INTER-5E)

EP8/EP6/E6100 and E5000 series drive units in combination with a Di2-compatible 8/5 speed internal geared hub offer full automatic shifting. SHIMANO E-BIKE SYSTEMS automatically selects and shifts into the optimum gear, based on the number of crank rotations and speed.

When riders manually shift in auto mode, SHIMANO E-BIKE SYSTEMS uses a learning function to recognize the manual shift and automatically fine-tunes future automatic shift timing to the rider’s liking. This offers a stress-free ride, eliminating the need for the rider to worry about whether they’re in the right gear or have to change gears after an abrupt stop.
