Solution Tips

Q:

I feel AUTO SHIFT is not for me. (Q-2010)

(in translation)

Try the applicable method suggested below.

  • Bike with a shift switch

Using the switch to shift gears in AUTO SHIFT mode allows the AI to learn rider preferences.

Ride on a flat road about 6 km using the switch for AI learning. You will feel the benefits of AUTO SHIFT.

  • Bike without a shift switch

The mode can be changed by double clicking the function button on the rear derailleur.

-[Auto 1]: For riders who want to pedal slowly and firmly.

-[Auto 2]: Intermediate setting between 1 and 3.

-[Auto 3]: For riders who want to pedal faster in a lighter gear.

Refer to the user's manual for more information on how to operate the function button.

If you still feel the same way, calibration may not have been performed correctly. Refer to  the user's manual to perform calibration.

Q:

When is calibration needed? (Q-2020)

(in translation)

Perform calibration in any of the situations below.

  • After removing/installing wheels
  • When you feel something is wrong when shifting gears on a slope
  • When the E-THRU lever has loosened
  • When you feel AUTO SHIFT is not for you

When performing calibration, tighten the E-THRU lever before calibrating the installation angle.

Refer to the user's manual for details.

Q:

Please tell me how to perform calibration. (Q-2030)

Q:

Even after calibrating, I occasionally feel the gears are not shifting correctly. (Q-2040)

(in translation)

This issue may be resolved by configuring or changing the bike related settings on E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist, but we recommend that you contact your place of purchase or distributor.

Q:

AUTO SHIFT has stopped working. (Q-2050)

(in translation)

Rotate the rear wheel or single click the function button on the rear derailleur to check the LED illumination pattern, then try the following.

1. Illuminates green for 3 seconds, then illuminates green again for 2 seconds

  • The bike is currently in manual mode.

Single click the shift mode on the switch (the default is the A button on the right) to switch the mode.

When the LED on the rear derailleur flashes green 1 to 3 times, the bike is in AUTO SHIFT mode.

2. Illuminates red for 3 seconds

  • The battery level may not be sufficient for automatic gear shifting.

Rotate the rear wheel for about 5 minutes to charge. When the LED on the rear derailleur illuminates green for 3 seconds, charging is complete.

3. LED does not illuminate (turned off)

  • The system did not start correctly.

Check that the cable between the freehub and rear derailleur is connected correctly.

Check that the rear derailleur battery level is sufficient.

The rear derailleur may be broken. Connect the rear derailleur to E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist and check to see if an error log is displayed. Click here for information on how to check.

If the issue still persists after trying the above, contact your place of purchase or a distributor.

Useful Information

Q:

What are the benefits of AUTO SHIFT? (Q-3010)

(in translation)

AUTO SHIFT is a convenient and attractive feature for many riders. AUTO SHIFT lets you experience the following:

  • Comfortable ride: The optimal gear is selected automatically, allowing for smooth pedaling and a comfortable ride.
  • Efficient pedaling: Pedaling load is adjusted automatically, allowing for efficient energy consumption. This helps reduce rider fatigue during a long ride.
  • Improved safety: Manual gear shifting operations are no longer necessary. This eliminates the need for letting go of the handlebar during a ride, which improves safety.
  • Easy for beginners: With improved usability, even beginners who are not used to shifting bike gears can easily ride in the optimal gear.
  • Simplified maintenance: The automatic gear shifting system shifts gears at the appropriate time, which helps reduce gear or chain wear and decrease the frequency of maintenance.
Q:

How are gears shifted in AUTO SHIFT mode? (Q-3020)

(in translation)

Gears can be shifted smoothly by the LINKGLIDE gear shifting system.

Also, gears are automatically shifted at the appropriate time according to the rider preferences and situations.
