  • Learn about how the SHIMANO DEORE M7200/M6200 mechanical drivetrain delivers classic, cable-actuated simplicity.
  • Explore how DEORE borrows key design features from XTR and DEORE XT, like the low-profile, impact-resistant rear derailleur and improved chain stability.
  • Read about what's new across shifting, cranks, brakes, and how DEORE offers a durable, easy-to-maintain system that is built to perform season after season.

Not everyone wants batteries on their mountain bike. For some the familiar simplicity of mechanical shifting is the way to go—and that's fine. Whether battery powered or cable actuated, SHIMANO mountain bike drivetrains have a long, storied, and ongoing history of precision performance, exceptional reliability, and long-lasting durability.

That includes SHIMANO's new DEORE M6200 mechanical drivetrain. One of the most iconic product names in mountain biking is leveling up, raising the bar for what riders can expect from an affordable component line. The new DEORE groupset features nearly all the same functionality, durability, and reliability as our more celebrated XTR and XT lines, but at a more approachable price.

DEORE Performance Redefined

Key highlights include an exceptionally robust rear derailleur that delivers fast and reliable shifting even under extreme pedaling load. Its low-profile design mirrors our higher tier Di2 drivetrains, where a slim, wedge-shaped stabilizer with no obstacle-catching edges helps the derailleur brush off on-trail impacts and seamlessly spring back to its original position without missing a shift.

And like XTR and XT versions, the new DEORE rear derailleur is built around the modern derailleur hanger, helping this critically important component safely absorb potentially catastrophic upward impacts. Instead of ride-wrecking failure, the hanger takes the brunt of the hit, allowing you to more quickly get back on the trail without having to shell out for costly replacement parts, or even a new frame.

A Derailleur Built to Take Hits

Reliability is further boosted by the DEORE rear derailleur's updated cage and solid pulley design, which work to minimize the risk of trail debris getting jammed inside the mechanism. And just like our Di2 offerings, it utilizes a wide link structure that further enhances rear derailleur robustness, while the slim chain stabilizer with dual spring construction ensures consistent shifting performance with no built-in service intervals.

This unique dual-spring design also increases spring force by 70 percent, which translates into tighter chain wrap and increased chain tension for better chain engagement. Even as cassette cogs wear out the chain continues to shift smoothly ride after ride.

The new DEORE rear derailleur is available in the long-cage option for both HYPERGLIDE+ (RD-M7200) 12-speed and LINKGLIDE (RD-M7230) 11-speed. And while the new derailleur does increase in cost compared to the previous DEORE model, it represents a renewed dedication to the robust needs of hard-charging mountain bikers. For those who prioritize cost over durability, the traditional design carries over in the updated RD-M6200 version for 12-speed HYPERGLIDE+.

Ergonomics that Just Feel Right

The new DEORE drivetrain is operated via a new, more ergonomic shift lever, which features a shorter lever stroke and a crisper overall actuation feel. That's combined with clean cable routing and an optimized paddle angle that allows your thumb to contact and comfortably engage the paddle in a wider area throughout the stroke of the shift.

Like the DEORE derailleur, the new shifter features multiple options to accommodate different bike and drivetrain options. Available for HYPERGLIDE+ 12-speed drivetrains, the SL-M6200 shifter features multi-shift for regular bikes while the SL-M6210 shifter is designed for eMTB and allows only single shifts to avoid damaging the cassette. A third shifter option, the SL-M6230, is designed for LINKGLIDE 11-speed systems. All DEORE shifters are available in both I-SPEC EV and clamp band options.

Durable Cranks, Confident Control

The DEORE drivetrain also boasts a durable and stiff two-piece crankset with an optimized 176 mm Q-factor, a 24 mm steel axle, and a new one-piece durable steel chainring that features SHIMANO's DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT technology for superior chain retention. Available crank lengths include 165 mm, 170 mm, and 175 mm and come with either 30T or 32T chainrings to match your favored terrain and riding style. DEORE cranksets are also compatible with the wider range of chainring in the XTR and XT families for further customization options.

Wide-Range Cassettes, Purpose-Built Choice

A key part of DEORE's evolution comes in the form of two new 12-speed cassette options, giving riders a clear choice based on performance priorities and budget. The DEORE CS-M7200 cassette pairs durable steel cogs with an alloy largest cog to deliver a wide-range 10-51T spread in a lighter, more performance-oriented package.

For riders who value durability and cost efficiency, the CS-M6200 cassette offers the same 510% gear range using an all-steel construction built to handle season after season of hard use.

Both cassettes deliver smooth, reliable shifting under load and reinforce DEORE's position as a trail-ready drivetrain that brings high-end SHIMANO design to a more accessible level.

Mechanical Simplicity, SHIMANO Confidence

Bottom line, whether you're an early adopter of all things new tech or prefer to stick with what you know, SHIMANO has you covered. And in all cases our overarching goal remains the same: provide riders with added confidence on every ride. Confidence you can control your bike just the way you want. Confidence that your bike's components will perform just as intended. And confidence that those parts will deliver long lasting durability for many seasons to come.

SHIMANO delivers on this promise via its legendarily durable drivetrains, including the all-new DEORE line-up, which boasts the critical features and array of options so you can dial in your bike's set-up just the way you want without breaking the bank.
