The length of time varies depending on the battery model and storage conditions. Click here for details.

Q:

What is the expected service life of the battery? (S-6100)

With 1000 or less charges, the battery retain 60 % of its original capacity.

* Charging the battery repeatedly when the value on the battery level indicator is between 100% and 80% can degrade the Li-Ion battery performance.

Q:

Is there anything I should be aware of when not riding my bicycle for a while or storing the battery for a long period of time after it has been removed from the bicycle? (S-6540)

  • Remove the battery from the bicycle and ensure that the battery level is approx. 70% when storing.
  • If the battery has been discharged completely, charge it as soon as possible. Leaving the battery completely discharged may allow battery degradation to progress, making it impossible for the battery to be charged or discharged. The battery must be charged regularly while being stored for a long period of time.
  • Store it in a cool, dry indoor place away from direct sunlight. (Approx.: 10 to 20℃)
  • When the storage temperature is too low or too high, the battery performance degrades, resulting in a shorter battery life.
  • Always charge the battery before using after storing it for a long period of time.
    * When using SC-E6010, SC-E6100, EW-SW100 or EW-SW300, charge the battery while it is attached to the bicycle.
Note that the length of time until the battery becomes unable to be charged or discharged varies depending on the battery model or storage conditions. Click here for details.
Q:

The battery level indicator does not show that the battery is fully charged after charging. (S-6550)

If the battery has self-discharged after being fully charged and no assist operation has been performed, recharging the battery may not fully charge the battery. This is not a malfunction.

Perform assist operation before charging the battery. This allows the battery to be fully charged.

Q:

An error/warning occurred. (S-6651)

Visit the following URL for detailed information on errors and warnings.

Q:

What is the maximum drive unit power? (S-6660)

500 W for E8000, EP800, and EP600. 600 W for EP801.

* The rated power is 250 W. The maximum power does not last for a long time. Also, the power output may be regulated to the appropriate amount according to the battery in use and the battery level.

Q:

Does the traveling distance per charge vary depending on the terrain or battery capacity? (S-6860)

The traveling distance per charge varies depending on the terrain, battery capacity, and assist settings of the drive unit. Generally, the traveling distance tends to increase on a flat terrain, with a larger battery capacity, or reduced assist power output setting.

The traveling distance can also be increased by shifting the gears properly for the terrain or riding situation as well as changing the assist mode frequently. Shifting gears can help your cadence be properly maintained, reducing unnecessary assist power output.

It is recommended that the assist power output be increased when riding on an uphill slope or with a strong headwind to conserve your energy, and be reduced when riding on a flat road, downhill slope or with a downwind.

Q:

How does the assist power output change when the assist mode is changed? (S-6870)

Generally, the higher the level of the assist output power setting (increased in order from OFF), the smaller the force on the pedals is required to output larger assist power, achieving increased riding performance. Reducing the assist power output setting tends to deliver a more conformable ride, achieving increased traveling distance.

Assist profiles control the assist power output characteristics and are optimized for each type of drive unit depending on anticipated usage conditions.

Q:

I'd like to customize the assist power output. (S-6880)

You can customize the assist power output with the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app offered by SHIMANO. From the [Customize] tab on this app, select the assist settings of your drive unit, then set your assist profile according to your preference or anticipated road conditions.
